March
Friendship Meals ~ by Ellen Larson
There were not very many Revelers to share our King’s Cake on
Mardi Gras. Maybe next year we will have enough so someone can get the token hidden in the King’s Cake. When
March rolls around we will be having a coffee to celebrate the Manager’s birthday on March 4. If you would like
to come and meet the Manager and see what we do at Friendship, have some Cake and Coffee come on into the Community Center
between 10:30 and noon on Wednesday. Make your reservations that day to eat with us on Thursday, when the Joyful Singers
will be singing for us at 11:30. Chicken Fried Steak will be our main dish for that day, March 5, 2009.
Come in on Tuesday, March 10, and listen to a gardening talk presented by
the Kingman County Extension Agency. After we learn about putting in our gardens, we will be having an Oven Fried Chicken
dinner. Please make your reservations by Friday, March 6, to insure there is a serving of your favorite piece of chicken
for lunch. Keep your eye on the paper for other choice meals we will be serving during the month of March.
Friendship meals will be hosting a card party on March 19th at 6:00
in the evening. That night we will be having pork sandwiches with gravy, combo salad, peach cups and brownies. If
you haven’t played pitch in a while, you might want to pick out a favorite meal, call to make a reservation (at 298-2555
between the hours of 10 and 1, or call Ellen at 298-3088 after hours) the day before you want to eat with us. Then come
in and play cards to practice your pitch playing skills and have lunch with us. A $3 contribution is asked for those
60 and over, $4.75 for anyone younger than 60.

Hilltop Happenings
Br-r-r has it been cold outside!
Here at Hilltop Manor we don’t have to worry about what the weather is doing outside. We have everything inside at our
finger tips. We have a good exercise room that the girls try to keep us in shape. Betty our beautician always keeps
us looking good. You need a trip to the doctor, Judy our Van driver can handle that for you. What else could you ask
for?
Since the holidays are over things have slowed down at bit. We had so much going on we could hardly
keep up with all of the events. Some of the highlights from the last months include the biggest Thanksgiving dinner
with guests and residents in Hilltop Manor’s history. The famous Theis Brothers entertained us at the Christmas
party. Last but not least, receiving a DEFICIENCY FREE and 5 STAR RATING from State Survey was tops. They tell us that
not many facilities in our area or the state of Kansas get this rating so we feel very privileged to receive it. Of course
we here at Hilltop knew we could meet this standard, but now the rest of the world knows it also. I guess our
secret is out!
This week we had our annual Snowball Dance. Mother nature even followed our theme with a
beautiful snow outside. April decorated the dining room with blue & white streamers and blinking snowflakes. Several
of the employees wore long dresses to fit in with the ballroom atmosphere. Dave & Ellen Larson were gracious enough
to bring in their music and equipment for us to use. The polka dance seemed to be the favorite of the residents.
Some of the residents were teaching the employees how the dance was done. Orange drink & cupcakes were enjoyed by
all. Don’t know who was more worn out the residents or the employees! Good job activities girls Tammy, Nikki
& April.
We have more plans for the next coming months. Our Valentine Party will be in February plus maybe sneaking
a few card games or bingo back in the schedule.
As always we appreciate & thank all the people who come to our facility
to help make us what we are. Without them we could not do it. Come check out our 5 STAR FACILITY anytime.
We would be proud to show what we have.
